Collaboration Initiative

Key Organizational Partners

The Chinese-American Networking Symposium focuses on ways to enhance and increase collaborative opportunities for Internet2 and its members working with Chinese universities and researchers, building upon the recent and long-term interaction and engagement between Internet2, CERNET, CSTNET, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences that has led to enhanced relationships, coordination, information-sharing, and improved services.

Key organizational partners are:

In China, CANS is organized by the Chinese Academy of Sciences' (CAS) Computer Network Information Center (CNIC) unit which operated the CSTNet research network, interconnecting the 100+ CAS research institutions, and by the Chinese Education and Research Network (CERNET), the Chinese Ministry of Education-supported organization that provides and operates the major national research and education network for over 700 universities in China. Internet2 - the national research and education networking organization in the U.S. that interconnects all U.S. research universities and many U.S. national laboratories in addition to other research and educational institutions - is the U.S. organizer along with the Chinese Association for Science and Technology U.S.A. (CAST-USA). Both of these organizations carry on the initial work of the University of Maryland at College Park, which helped create the series of CANS meeting in 1998.
