Description
This Working Group (WG) will focus on end-to-end (e2e) measurement technologies between research groups and networks in the US and China. The WG focus will also include point-to-point (ptp) technologies as an area of focus as ptp technologies may have a significant role to play in increasing data throughput and e2e is required to verify that role. The WG will meet once a year in person at the CANS meeting and via e-mail and VC as needed.
Scope and Output of Working Group
- Identify collaborative projects of mutual interest
- Prioritize potential joint projects
- Set timelines, milestones, and deliverables
- Formally present these activities as CANS e2e Measurement WG Activities
- Prepare ongoing reports to CANS management on progress
- Hold a half-day WG meeting at each CANS event where past work is summarized and future work is planned.
Initial Projects
- Agreement to set up mailing list
- Agreement to clarify pS installation procedures on public facing web pages
- Agreement to clarify the difference between pS and the pS Toolkit on public facing web pages
- Agreement to clarify how to submit additions to the pS Toolkit on public facing web pages
- Clarify the more complex mechanism for submitting additions to pS on public facing web pages
- Double number of pS nodes in CERNET/CSTNET
- ESnet to provide information about their work with the HNTES project on identifying and transitioning elephant flows to uncongested links [before next CANS]
- ESnet and CERNET and CSTNET to continue researching differences between IPv4 and IPv6 performance and to work with software, hardware, and OS vendors in improving IPv6 performance [before next CANS]
- Agreement between Indiana University and CERNET to work together in development of technology to facilitate elephant flows across the US-China link. (In order to accomplish this, we will need an upfront agreement to access Flow data (NetFlow, sFlow) from the link. Current pS tools are not sufficient.)
- Develop international pS test-bed and demonstration environment
- Develop international pS experts mailing lists and forums
- CSTNET and CERNET agree to learn and deploy each other's software to minimize development efforts
- CSTNET and CERNET agree to publish measurement reports together
